Thomas Rosén, while at BofA, advised on deals such as Iberdola SA's purchase of Energy East.
June 26, 2008
Sagent Advisors hired Thomas Rosén as a managing director in its energy and power group.
He will work closely with Martin Murrer and Curt Launer and help the team expand its coverage to include the global power sector, including utilities and renewable energy companies.
"The industry is undergoing a transformation driven by increasing commodity prices and the need for significant infrastructure investments," Rosén said in a press release.
In the release, he said he expects consolidation to continue due to greater demand for energy assets. Rosén cited Mergermarket data indicating there were 950 global energy deals in 2007, compared to 732 in 2005. In 2007, the North American market contributed 50% of the deal value and 43% of deal volume.
Rosén was most recently head of natural resources M&A at Banc of America Securities. He focused on the global power space and was lead advisor on transactions such as Iberdola SA's acquisition of Energy East.
Prior to BofA, Rosén worked at Chase Securities from 1987 to 2000. He founded and led the firm's utility and power team.
"We are actively recruiting managing directors who bring unrivaled industry sector experience as Sagent grows its focused and successful business model," said Joel Cohen, Sagent chairman and co-chief executive. "Thomas' sterling reputation as a veteran advisor to senior managements and boards of directors in the power and utilities space will undoubtedly broaden our traditional areas of industry leadership in exploration, production, natural gas and electric utilities."
