Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has begun an infrastructure assets initiative. The new investment team will be led by George Bilicic, a former managing director at Lazard.
Bilicic is joining KKR as a managing director and will be based in the firms New York office. His team will consist of professionals in Europe, Asia, and the U.S.
While at Lazard, Bilicic lead the firms global efforts in power, energy and infrastructure sectors. He joined Lazard as a managing director in March 2002. In October 2007, he advised TXU in its acquisition by KKR and TPG. Previously, he was a mergers and acquisitions partner in the law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
The infrastructure space has drawn several new investors in recent years. Brand name firms such as Carlyle Group, Goldman Sachs and others have all launched dedicated infrastructure arms, joining the small class of existing players in the space such as Macquarie and Cintra.
KKR gave no indication as to how much capital it would raise to pursue the asset class. The firm declined to comment for this report.
